Originally from Ciales, Puerto Rico, Jowy J. Santiago Miranda is a director and cinematographer with a passion for storytelling through the lens. He studied theater at the Barceloneta School of Fine Arts and holds a bachelor's degree in Digital Cinematography, complemented by several advanced workshops in the field. Jowy holds a key position in Mucaro Pictures, a production company dedicated to crafting compelling visual narratives and commercial work.
As a cinematographer, he earned the Best Cinematography Award at the 2024 European Film Festival, along with numerous accolades at international festivals. His work has transcended borders, with notable screenings at the 41st Chicago Latino Film Festival, featuring The Shadow of the Witness and at Warner Media's New York Latino Film Festival with Segregatio as a Director.
Santiago Miranda has also contributed his talents to commercials for major brands such as Bravada Vodka, Seguros Múltiples, and El Parque de las Ciencias. Additionally, he photographed documentaries like Life On and Beyond Earth, for the Eco Exploratorio, and Ecos y Raíces: Tambores del Oeste, showcasing his versatility in commercial, narrative and documentary filmmaking.
Jowy Joel has forged an ongoing collaboration with Los Pleneros de la Cresta, and various folkloric groups dedicated to preserving and promoting Puerto Rican culture. His dedication to cultural advocacy is central to his work, as he aims to enrich and revitalize Puerto Rican cinema.
A passionate enthusiast of philosophy and sociology, Jowy aspires to plant the seeds of a thriving Puerto Rican film culture—one that values local cinema and art and helps them flourish on the global stage.
